How to Download PDFs Instead of Previewing Them in Browser

If you press a PDF link in most browsers, the browser in the web browser window opens the PDF preview. You need to change a setting in your browser to download a PDF and not open it. It’s Chrome, Firefox, and Edge.

FOR GOOGLE CHROME

Google Chrome uses the integrated PDF viewer for previewing PDFs.
This PDP viewer can be turned off, and then Chrome prompts you to save your PDFs instead of previewing them.

Start with Google Chrome launched on your device.

As Chrome starts, in the top right corner of your browser, press the Chrome menu (three dots), then pick ‘Settings.’

In Chrome settings, click “Privacy and security” in the left sidebar. Click “Site Settings” on the right.

Start Firefox on your machine to get to this alternative.

Click “Options” in the upper right-hand corner of the Firefox menu (three horizontal lines).

In Options, click “General” on the left. Scroll down the right pane until you see the “Applications” section.

For Microsoft Edge

In order to preview files, Microsoft Edge uses a built-in PDF viewer.
Turn off this feature, and instead of previewing, the browser is saving your PDFs.

To do that, launch Microsoft Edge on your computer.

When Edge opens, click the menu (three dots) in the top-right corner of the window and select “Settings.”

Settings option in Edge

In Settings, click “Cookies and site permissions” on the left, and then select “PDF documents” on the right.
